Sindh seeks ADB’s assistance for Karachi’s water treatment plant

The Chief Minister of Sindh Murad Ali Shah on Wednesday sought assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for the TP-4 water treatment plant in Karachi.

CM Sindh held a meeting with Xiaoqin (Emma) Fan, the Country Director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), at CM House, to discuss ongoing projects across the province.

The discussions focused on collaborative efforts in water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) projects, especially for flood victims, and a solar initiative aimed at providing affordable energy solutions.

CM Shah highlighted the need for WASH facilities for over 210,000 homes to ensure adequate sanitation and drainage systems.

CM Shah requested ADB’s support for Karachi’s TP-4 water treatment plant, highlighting its importance, the CM directed the Planning and Development Department to submit the project documents to ADB for expedited processing.

The government of Sindh, in partnership with ADB, World Bank, and other agencies, currently aiding in the construction of safe houses with essential facilities for flood-affected households.

Additionally, the CM sought ADB’s support for expanding a solar project to provide affordable electricity to these communities.

The ADB assured its commitment to assist in WASH and solar projects for the flood victim families in the province.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to address infrastructure gaps in Hyderabad, aiming to assess and implement solutions to improve the city’s infrastructure.
