42% nationals fell in depression, 25% inclined towards suicidal thoughts amid pandemic, reveals SMAH’s report


Sindh Mental Health Authority gathered data across the province on coronavirus’ effect on mental health, which revealed that around 42% people fell into depression of them 25 percent were inclined towards committing suicide.


Research was conducted by SMHA in May to June, in which 48% of male and 52% females took part. The total number of the participants in this research was 1,494 from each six districts of urban and rural Sindh.


Details of the report further state that around 62% people became jobless or suffered financial instability during the pandemic so far.


Rural areas were more affected by the situation than urban centers, the proportion between them remain 81:63.


There were people who borrowed money for their survival, their ration remains 36% while 21% of people were seen selling their properties or livestock.


On the other hand, 76% people did not get any relief or government package.


The research was collaborated by different NGOs. Also, Dow medical university of health, Liaquat university of medical science and health and university of Karachi took part in this research.
