Sindh police puts CTD to the task

Sindh police has implemented a new strategy to combat street violence in Karachi, and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD)  has been tasked with halting illicit weapon trade.

The Sindh police department has resolved to halt the flow of illigal weapons to the city in order to combat street violence.

The CTD was tasked by the Inspector General (IG) Sindh police with halting the flow of illigal firearms to Karachi.

According to an inquiry report, illegal firearms were smuggled to Karachi bus terminals from rural areas and some bus employees were also discovered to be complicit in the guns supply. Furthermore, certain railway routes were also used for this activity.

According to the investigation report, a locally produced illicit firearm may be purchased in Karachi for as low as Rs15,000 to Rs20,000. These firearms are then used to commit street crimes, dacoities, and terrorists.

CTD units have been formed by the Sindh police department to execute intelligence-based operations.

Today, the IG Sindh met with CTD officials and employees at the Central Police Office (CPO) and handed over the job of preventing the sale and supply of illicit weapons.

He directed officials to perform surveillance of impacted regions in order to prevent terrorist activity. He also instructed the intelligence network to become more effective. He stated that security personnel should investigate the sources of illegal weapons supply.

The Sindh police chief said that the security personnel must ensure their own safety while taking action against the criminals.

The Karachi police force resolved in September to tighten their circle against  street criminals in the city.

The decision was made after a meeting of top police personnel presided over by Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi Javed Alam Odho.

The Karachi police chief directed all zone deputy inspector generals (DIGs) and senior superintendents of police (SSPs) to take steps to reduce street crime as soon as possible.

AIG Karachi Odho stated that every effort will be made to safeguard civilians from street criminals, and that operations against the perpetrators will be accelerated.

Furthermore, to combat criminal activity, the Karachi police force will deploy special vigilance units at the district level.
