SHC receives petition against Civil Hospital over faulty vaccination after dog-bite

The Sindh High Court on Monday received a petition from a citizen seeking legal action against the Civil Hospital administration for providing faulty vaccine for a dog bite.

According to Riaz Ahmed, he was bitten by a dog while he was cutting wood in the Surjani Town area of Karachi on July 8. After the incident, on July 9 and 12, Ahmed went to the city’s Civil Hospital to get immunised to mitigate any possible side-effects of the bite. According to the petitioner he remained fine until July 16, after which he developed swelling on his shoulders and a large rash at the site of the bite.

Ahmed maintained that his condition was the result of getting the faulty jab. He further said that the Surjani Town police has refused to file a complaint against the hospital. The petitioner demanded that an inquiry be held against the hospital and those responsible for the negligence be dealt with severely.

The management of Civil Hospital and Services hospital, secretary of health, director of healthcare and the Surjani Town SHO have all been made party in the petition.
