Karachi, known as the ‘Commercial Capital’ of Pakistan and once the capital city, is now grappling with a concerning issue: rising crime rates. The city’s crime statistics paint a grim picture, leading many to refer to it as the ‘Crime Capital’.
A closer examination of crime data reveals an alarming increase in incidents of car thefts and mobile thefts. Despite efforts to curb crime, the numbers continue to rise instead of decreasing.
According to a recent report, street crime incidents in Karachi have witnessed a further surge in the first five months of this year. During this period, a staggering 24,161 motorcycles were reported stolen, causing significant financial losses for the citizens.
The report also highlighted that 11,936 mobile phones were snatched from individuals on highways, roads, streets, and even doorstep robberies. Tragically, these crimes have not been without casualties, as 255 civilians lost their lives in various incidents, with 60 of them falling victim to street crime.
The report specifically noted a noticeable increase in motorcycle snatching and street crime in Karachi during the month of May. The highest number of incidents were reported in 10 police stations across the city, including Korangi Industrial Area, Sarjani, Gulshan Iqbal, Gulistan Johar, and Ferozabad.
The rising crime rates in Karachi have become a matter of great concern for both the residents and authorities. Efforts are being made to address the situation and improve the security landscape in the city. However, more comprehensive measures and collective efforts are needed to effectively combat the growing crime wave and restore a sense of safety and security for the people of Karachi.
