During his inaugural visit to Karachi on Wednesday, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif announced the allocation of 150 buses for the city, following a request from Sindh Minister for Transport, Sharjeel Inam Memon, during a high-level meeting.
Sindh Transport Minister Memon had initially requested 300 buses for Karachi, but Prime Minister Shahbaz stated that the federal government would provide 150 buses to the Sindh transport department to supplement their existing fleet.
Prime Minister Shahbaz praised the efforts of the Sindh government in enhancing transportation services for the public, acknowledging their commitment to improving the transport system in the province.
In discussions regarding the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah briefed the prime minister on the progress, highlighting the revised feasibility study undertaken in 2023. He urged the prime minister to facilitate the framework agreement for the execution of the KCR under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and to grant the “Right of Way” (RoW) of the KCR to the Sindh government.
Responding to these requests, Prime Minister Shahbaz directed the planning minister to address any impediments hindering the KCR project’s execution, emphasizing the importance of removing obstacles to ensure its timely implementation.
The high-level meeting, held at the Chief Minister’s House, was attended by federal ministers and officials, including Ahsan Iqbal, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Owais Leghari, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Musadik Malik, Jam Kamal, and Ataullah Tarar, accompanying the prime minister. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, along with provincial ministers and officials, represented the host province in the discussions.
