Prime Minister Imran Khan has announced a historic package of Rs 1.1 trillion which will be used to solve the city’s crisis.
Speaking at a press conference in Karachi on Saturday, the PM announced the introduction of a package which will be used to address several infrastructure problems within the city. These would include sewerage, solid waste management and transport systems.
Sitting next to the PM were the Sindh Governor and Sindh Chief Minister, as he stated that both the federal and provincial governments will be solving these problems together.
Imran Khan specifically focused on the latest monsoon crisis and stated that the package would look to resolve problems concerning water and drainage. He claimed that these problems will be dealt with permanently within the next three years. He added that coordinated efforts will be made with regards to the damages caused by the recent spell of monsoon rains.
As per his announcement, the National Disaster Management Authority will be responsible for cleaning the Nullah within the mega city and the several encroachments in these areas would be removed. Any families displaced in the process will be accommodated by the Sindh Government.
The Prime Minister said that a Provincial Coordination Implementation Committee (PCIC) will be established which will include various stakeholder to ensure that decisions regarding Karachi efficiently implemented. to keep on check to ensure implementation of the decisions regarding Karachi.
