Pakistan prepares for 2024 General Elections with a significant reduction in gender gap among voters

As Pakistan gears up for the general elections in 2024, the Election Commission of Pakistan has released the voter list, revealing that a total of 128,577,760 voters will participate in the democratic process. The data indicates a notable reduction in the gender gap, with 53.87% being male voters and 46.13% female voters.

This shift signifies a positive development in gender inclusivity compared to the 2018 general elections, where the gender gap was nearly 11%. The current 7.74% difference between male and female voters highlights a growing trend towards equal representation in the democratic exercise.

Breaking down the numbers by provinces, Punjab, the most populous province, boasts 73,287,896 voters. Among them, 53.44% are male, and 46.56% are female. Sindh, with 26,994,769 voters, shows 54.13% male voters and 45.87% female voters. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with 21,928,119 voters, exhibits 54.47% male voters and 45.53% female voters.

Balochistan, with 5,371,947 voters, has a gender distribution of 56.15% male voters and 43.85% female voters. Islamabad, the federal capital, contributes 1,083,029 voters to the national count, with 52.48% being male and 47.52% female.

The Election Commission’s efforts to bridge the gender gap in voter registration have been recognized as a positive step towards a more inclusive democratic process. The commission has implemented measures to ensure that both male and female voters have equal access to their right to vote, promoting a more balanced and representative electoral system.
