Muharram moon likely to be sighted on August 9, says PMD


Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will look for the moon on the evening of August 9. There is a good chance of sighting the new crescent on this day, says Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).


According to a statement shared by the weather department, the first day of new Islamic lunar year 1443 AH, will likely fall on Tuesday 10 August.


Yom e Ashura (10th day of Muharram) is expected to fall on Thursday, August 19th.


The new moon will appear across the country’s sky at 18:51 Pakistan Standard Time (PST) on August 8, Zilhaj 29, making a good chance for new crescent of Muharram 1443 to be sighted on the evening of August 9, informed PMD.


The statement further added that the weather is expected to be partly cloudy in most parts of the country on the evening of August 9.


On the other hand, the religious Zonal and District Ruet e Halal Committees will gather to look for Muharram 1443 moon on Aug 9, and collect the evidences.
