Mardan declared loadshedding-free city under ‘Zero-Theft, Zero-Loadshedding’ initiative

In a significant development, Mardan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has been declared a loadshedding-free city under the “Zero-Theft, Zero-Loadshedding” initiative launched by the power division. This initiative, known as “The Mardan Model,” aims to eliminate power theft, improve recoveries, and ensure uninterrupted power supply in the city.

Background:

  1. Mardan had been facing power outages for more than six hours a day, impacting residents and businesses.
  2. The initiative is part of a nationwide drive against power theft initiated on the directives of Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar.

Launch of “The Mardan Model”:

  1. Secretary Power Division Rashid Langrial officially launched “The Mardan Model” in Islamabad.
  2. The key focus of this model is to eradicate power theft, improve recovery mechanisms, and make Mardan the first power theft-free city in Pakistan.
  3. The power division emphasizes that eliminating power theft is crucial for ending loadshedding across the country.

Statement from Rashid Langrial:

  2. He emphasized that the goal is to make all feeders theft-free, and loadshedding will only end when this objective is achieved.

Achievements in Mardan:

  1. Mardan, located around 50 kilometers from the provincial capital, had reported power losses of around 56%.
  2. Coordinated efforts from various departments reduced losses to less than 8% within two months.
  3. The city, which faced significant power theft challenges, has successfully curbed power theft by 100%.
  4. This achievement highlights the effectiveness of collaborative efforts to address power-related challenges in the region.

The “Zero-Theft, Zero-Loadshedding” initiative in Mardan serves as a model for other cities and regions, showcasing the positive impact of targeted measures to combat power theft and ensure a reliable electricity supply.
