Karachi surpasses 15% coronavirus positivity rate


Covid-19 cases are once again increasing in the port city after a short decline in the number, it goes up again to 15% positivity rate.


According to the health officials, the public is not following SOPs which is the major reason in the increase of cases. Sindh has an overall 7% of positivity rate with its capital being the highest whereas, Hyderabad has 4.5% of positivity rates.


Hospitals in Karachi are full and the beds are occupied and the citizens are not getting vaccinated as per the expectation, said the health officials.


The government on Monday said, it will likely shut all the businesses which include marriage halls, cattle markets, restaurants and markets, if found violating SOPs i.e., not wearing face masks or maintaining social distances.


The government has also decided on the closure of primary schools, proposed by health department, and in-door dinning for two weeks, said Sindh Chief Secretary Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah.


According to the media, those schools which have conducted their annual examinations will remain close for two weeks as per the instructions.


The situation in the hospitals of Karachi is alarming as the cases are going up with high positivity rate, said Dr.Memon. The health officials also stressed upon the number of people getting vaccinated, said that 3.35 million people in Karachi are vaccinated, yet the number has not reached to what it has been expected.


Citizens are strictly asked to follow the SOPs or else will be dealt with severe punishment, warned the government.
