Karachi Police Chief Additional Inspector General Ghulam Nabi Memon has said that police research has revealed that, in the past, street criminals have been released on fake personal guarantees.
The police chief has assured that legal action will be taken against not only the robbers but also their guarantors. He said Karachi police have been formulating a research-based policy to curb street crimes.
“During the research, it came to our knowledge that the street criminals had been released on fake personal guarantees,” he said.
Police officials admit that repeat offenders are involved in the crime. Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Administration Ahmed Nawaz Cheema recently said that 80% of the accused involved in street crimes have been arrested and jailed several times before.
