Karachi observes a surge in Sindhi, Seraiki and Pashto speakers


Pakistan’s largest metropolitan city has observed a rapid increase in the numbers of Sindhi, Seraiki and Pashto speakers, reported in the 6th census of 2017.

According to the census report of 2017, there has been observed a decline in the number of Urdu, Balochi and Punjabi speakers in the city, whereas the metropolitan city has observed a remarkable increase of Sindhi, Pashto and Seraiki speakers.


Comparing to the census report of 1998, the total number of Urdu speaking people has fallen to 6.22%, the number of Balochi speakers has declined to 0.30% and the number of Punjabi speakers has fallen to 3.21% in the city.


On the other hand, comparatively to the 5th census report of 1998, the city has witnessed a surge in the number of Sindhi speakers to 3.45%, Seraiki speaking people to 2.86% and the number of Pashto speaking people has increased to 3.59% in Karachi.
