Karachi citizens show rage over KMC tax in KE bill by throwing garbage in KE vehicle

In response to K-contentious Electric’s decision to add KMC taxes to energy bills, Karachi residents were seen in a viral video throwing trash into the company’s vans.

After the recent imposition of levies by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) through the power bills, Karachiites took their ire out on K-Electric.

At the complaint centres and helpline 118, the public began to file concerns about the contentious decision against the K-Electric administration.

A civilian was seen sprinting toward a K-Electric car that was patrolling with a technical crew in a video that quickly became popular on social media. The citizen approached the car, grabbed several trash bags from a trash can, and hurled them into the truck.

A other individual was using their phone to record the entire episode. Later, when the KE crew had left the street, the man began tossing additional trash bags inside the business vehicle by picking them up from the trash can.

The locals said that while KE administration was at the top of the tax collection game, Karachi residents were not given reliable electricity supply.

KE’s controversial move

K-Electric began obtaining taxes from Karachi residents through their monthly power bills in September on behalf of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).

The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and K-Electric, the city’s sole power provider, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to implement the collection of municipal utility charges tax (MUCT) through energy bills.

The KE has imposed a Rs. 50 tax on the first 200 units consumed, and a Rs. 70 tariff on units consumed between 200 and 700. The monthly municipal tax for users of more than 700 units is Rs 200.

Syed Murad Ali Shah, the chief minister of Sindh, declared on September 8 that the provincial government will start collecting the fire tax and conservancy tax from residents on behalf of the KMC.
