Heatwave-like conditions expected in Pakistan from June 20-24: Met

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has announced that heatwave-like conditions will persist in most parts of the country from June 20 to 24 due to high pressure in the upper atmosphere. Daytime temperatures are expected to be significantly higher than normal during this period.

Specifically, upper and central Punjab, Islamabad, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir are likely to experience temperatures 4-6 degrees Celsius above normal, while Sindh, South Punjab, and parts of Balochistan can expect temperatures 2-4 degrees Celsius above normal.

The met office has also forecasted occasional dust storms, thunderstorms, and isolated pockets of rain in the plains of the country and hilly areas during this period.

The rise in temperature is expected to increase the demand for power and water, and farmers are advised to manage crop watering accordingly. The general public is urged to minimize direct exposure to sunlight, and citizens are reminded to use water judiciously in all aspects of life.
