Death certificates no longer required for burial

Karachi AIG Ghulam Nabi Memon has asked station House officers to not ask the deceased’s family for death certificates in cases where death is due to natural causes amidst the pandemic, reported Samaa News.

AIG Memon  announced on Thursday that the police officers must not inquire for a death certificate in order to issue a NO Objection Certificate. Earlier on, a permit had to be received from the police in order to carry out the burials in the graveyards.

He said that the police may participate in the burial of Coronavirus victims upon receiving confirmation by the health official or deputy commissioner. He added that all standard operating procedures as laid out by the government will have to be followed in order to prevent the spread of the virus.

Cases of Coronavirus are rapidly increasing in Karachi with the total city wide count coming to 6172 on May 7th.
