Pakistan Meteorological Department has said that depression over the east-central Arabian Sea has intensified into Cyclonic Storm “KYARR.” The core pressure has been recorded as 918Hpa and wind speed of 245KM/hour. It is headed west – north west @ 13.8 Km/h.

Rainfall and strong winds are expected in lower Sindh and belt of the Makran coast from October (today) 28th-30th as predicted by the weather advisory.

The weather advisory stated that the current course of the cyclone is not expected to hit any land bodies. “A cyclone of such strength is likely to cause damage and destroy any place it hits whether it is Pakistan, Oman, Somalia or Yemen,” the department added. 

A weather warning has also been issued advising people to steer clear of the beach for the next 4-5 days.

The government has announced a three days ban on any fishing activities in the sea. Violation of the ban will lead to fine. Citizens have been warned to remain alert and spread the news. 

The cyclone formed over the Arabian Sea on Friday. Red alerts have also been issued in neighbouring countries and efforts were made to rescue fishermen from the sea.

The cyclone is gaining strength and developing into category 4 cyclone which causes rough seas over the eastern coast of UAE as reported by MET. It is likely to surge over the eastern coast of UAE by Monday night. 

The last most torrential cyclone in Arabian Sea was recorded in 2007 as the  Cyclone Gonu which devastated Oman’s coast.
