In a successful operation, Pakistan Customs intercepted an attempt to smuggle mobile phones valued at millions at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi. Customs officials stationed at the international arrival gate were conducting checks on passengers arriving from foreign countries when they detected suspicious activity. During surveillance, the luggage of three passengers arriving from Dubai was scanned, resulting in the discovery of 51 concealed mobile phones worth Rs 27.6 million. The passengers, who had reached Karachi via a connecting flight from Dubai, had hidden the mobile phones within clothes in their suitcase.
The Customs officials took immediate action, seizing the smuggled phones and filing a case against the three passengers who were unable to produce tax details during the inspection. This intervention is part of ongoing efforts by Customs to combat illegal activities and smuggling at the country’s airports.
In a separate incident at the Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore, Customs officials thwarted an attempt to smuggle expensive shawls. A woman arriving on a private airline flight from Dubai was caught attempting to bring in 240 high-value shawls. The shawls, made of luxurious and fancy materials, were estimated to be worth up to Rs 1 million. The woman, after initial questioning, was allowed to proceed, and the confiscated shawls were seized by Customs officials.
