In a groundbreaking visit to Thar, Chief Minister Sindh, Justice (R) Maqbool Baqar, unveiled a spectrum of transformative initiatives, ranging from power projects to educational reforms, cementing Thar’s position as a hub of sustainable development.
Powering Progress: Thar Block One Integrated Energy Project
The Chief Minister commenced his visit with an extensive inspection of the Thar Block One Integrated Energy Project, a cornerstone of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Notably, the Shanghai Coal Fire Power Plant, boasting a record-setting 1320 megawatts capacity and a towering 120-meter chimney, took center stage.
Accompanied by Justice (R) Maqbool Baqar, the delegation delved into various facets of the power plant, from coal mining operations to the control room. The Chief Minister applauded the project’s contribution to the national grid and economic prosperity, saving 500 million US dollars in foreign currency annually. The venture has also created 18,000 direct employment opportunities, with a commitment to 90% employment for Sindh residents.
Expressing gratitude for Shanghai Electric’s meticulous fund management, Chief Minister Sindh emphasized the necessity of collaboration for land acquisition, resettlement, and addressing concerns related to the coal tariff.
Educational Reforms: Multilingual Curriculum and Green Initiatives
Transitioning to the education sector, Chief Minister Sindh visited a local school in Thar, symbolizing a commitment to holistic development. Students warmly welcomed the Chief Minister, who actively participated in a tree-planting initiative, underlining the government’s dedication to environmental sustainability.
The school’s faculty briefed Justice (R) Maqbool Baqar on their pioneering multilingual curriculum, offering education in English, Urdu, Sindhi, and Dotki languages. This innovative approach aims to provide students with a comprehensive language education system.
