Moving forward with Karachi’s Green Line project, the government has opened the bidding process to obtain buses, ARY News reported.
The bidding process for Karachi Green Line BRT project is to officially start from August 21. Currently, about 12 international and national companies are interested in the tender issued by the government earlier this year. The final results will be announced in October by the government and the selected company will be awarded a tender for the procurement of buses.
As of yet, a sum of Rs5.5 billion has been released by the federal government for the Green Line bus project and about 95 percent of the infrastructure is ready. The remaining work is currently underway.
It may be noted that in 2014, the government had decided to provide infrastructure component to launch the BRT Green Line project on modern lines to reduce traffic congestion within the city.
Proposed route for Green Line starts from Municipal Park,extends along M.A Jinnah Road towards northest up to Gurumandir, and after Gurumandir the alignment runs northward along Business Recorder Road, Nawab Siddique Ali Khan Road, Shahrah-e-Shershah Suri and Shahrah-e-Usman passing by some of the major landmarks such as Numaish, Board Office and Nagan Chowrangi.
