Alarming Rise in Street Crimes in Karachi: CPLC Report Reveals Disturbing Statistics

The Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) has recently released a comprehensive report shedding light on the alarming rate of street crimes committed in Karachi during the first four months of 2023, painting a grim picture of the city’s security situation, as reported by ARY News.

According to the CPLC’s compiled statistics, a shocking number of 186 individuals lost their lives while bravely resisting robbery attempts and other related incidents, leaving several others wounded. These incidents highlight the increasing risks faced by the residents of Karachi.

One of the most troubling aspects revealed in the report is the prevalence of motorcycle theft, with an astonishing count of nearly 19,000 motorcycles being snatched or stolen during the mentioned period. Regrettably, the recovery rate for these stolen vehicles was dishearteningly low, with only 1,069 motorcycles being successfully retrieved.

Furthermore, the CPLC report states that 754 vehicles were forcefully taken from their owners during the same period, while the recovery efforts resulted in the retrieval of only 211 of these stolen automobiles.

Cellphone theft also emerged as a significant concern, as a staggering number of 9,464 citizens fell victim to such crimes in the first four months of 2023. Shockingly, only 161 stolen cellphones were recovered, leaving the majority of victims without any hope of reclaiming their possessions.

In addition to these distressing figures, the CPLC report disclosed that two incidents of kidnapping for ransom and five incidents of extortion were registered during the mentioned period. Furthermore, a single bank robbery took place, indicating the audacity of criminals targeting financial institutions.

These street crimes in Karachi not only affect the common people but also pose a threat to police officials and other dignitaries. It is clear that urgent and effective measures need to be implemented to tackle this growing menace.
