The judicial Commission investigating the death of Mir Raza recorded the statement of Head Clerk Zeeshan Haider on Tuesday, as proceedings focused on Dr. Osama’s conduct during his appearance before the inquiry.

The commission called Dr. Osama to the rostrum and asked him why people accompanying him had snatched a journalist’s mobile phone. When the commission sought an explanation, Dr. Osama’s response suggested he thought the question had been asked by a fool.

The commission warned him that had this been the Sindh High Court instead of a commission, he would have received a contempt of court notice.

The commission demanded the identity of the person who snatched the phone. Dr. Osama said the individual was a law student, according to his information. When pressed for a name, he could not provide one.

The commission reminded him that it could show video evidence and that he faced fines or even jail time. It also remarked sarcastically that he was not Donald Trump, with people walking in front of and behind him.

Dr. Osama said he only knew one Kashif, who lived in his area. The commission said it would issue a notice to Kashif.

Exchange with Dr. Osama’s Father

Dr. Osama’s father then came to the rostrum. Dr. Osama appeared nervous, his father told the commission.

The commission addressed the father directly, saying his son comes here every time and lies. It advised him to counsel his son, warning that he could land in serious trouble.

The commission asked the father to provide his son’s address and present him at the next hearing.

Dr. Osama said his family wanted his timeline also heard by the commission. The commission responded that he had lied repeatedly, one lie after another.

The commission accused him of attempting to throw a senior police surgeon in front of a bus, adding that it was not there to listen to his lies as he had been exposed in the police surgeon’s statement, and that he had denied everything in his own statement.

Social Media Posts Against Dr Summaiya Syed Tariq

The commission pointed out that posts against the police surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed Tariq were circulating on social media under his name.

Dr. Osama said he had not appeared before anyone since then. The commission said it had seen screenshots of conversations between him and Dr Summaiya. Dr. Osama claimed he also had screenshots.

The commission told him it would no longer hear anything from him and that if he wanted to say anything, he should submit a formal application.

Mobile Phone Seized by Police

Dr. Osama told the commission that police had taken his phone on August 19. The commission asked why he had not mentioned this when he was first summoned, implying that any leak may have come from the police rather than from him. Dr. Osama said he could not say anything about it and that it was possible.

Following the recording of his statement before the judicial commission, Dr. Osama Sheikh told reporters outside the court that Mir Raza had been shot from the front, adding that he stands by his findings.

When questioned about Dr Summaiya giving a statement against him and placing screenshots before the commission, Dr. Osama said he did not know about it, adding that he also had screenshots of his own.

He told the media outside the court that screenshots are two-way, not one-way, and that he had brought screenshots from his side on a USB. He said he would submit them if given the chance.

Dr. Osama said the case was a very high-profile one and that everyone was learning it according to their own understanding – whether a journalist, a lawyer, or a doctor, and whether someone had a hundred years of experience or just two.

He said the case was of a high nature and should be given a platform where people could hear it.
