A one-month-old baby has had his hand amputated after his family alleged medical negligence at a private hospital in Karachi’s Orangi Town.

Police have registered a case against a doctor and hospital staff at Pirabad police station following a complaint filed by the baby’s father.
According to the father, he took his one-month-old son, Azmatullah, to a private hospital in Orangi Town on August 31, 2026, after the infant became unwell.
The father alleged that a doctor, Yasir Inam, advised hospital staff to insert a cannula into the baby’s hand and bandage the area.
He said three members of the hospital staff carried out the procedure, after which medicines and injections were administered through the cannula several times.
Four days later, the father returned to the hospital with his son. He alleged that when the bandage was removed, he found that the baby’s hand had turned completely black.
According to the father, the doctor prescribed medication and said the infection would improve. Concerned about the infant’s worsening condition, the family subsequently took him to Jinnah Hospital.
The father alleged that doctors at Jinnah Hospital told him an infection had developed due to an improperly inserted cannula and that the baby’s hand would need to be amputated.
He subsequently accused Dr Yasir Inam and three unidentified hospital staff members of negligence.
Pirabad police have registered a case against the doctor and hospital staff and said they had contacted the relevant healthcare commission to assist with the investigation.
The hospital administration disputed the family’s account.
According to the administration, the family had visited the hospital in August and left after the cannula was inserted without informing hospital staff.
The administration said it was only recently informed that the infant’s hand had been amputated and that it was investigating the matter.
The hospital also said it was prepared to face any legal proceedings related to the incident.
