The report into the Pims hospital fire has revealed serious lapses in safety arrangements, highlighting negligence in measures intended to protect patients and staff.

According to the Fire incident report shared by the Capital Development Authority, the PIMS Hospital fire incident was reported at 6:14 AM on August 26, 2026. The blaze was caused by an electric short circuit and power overload.
According to the CDA fire incident report, the fire crew was dispatched at 6:55 AM from multiple locations. The first responders reached the scene within six minutes. Thick black smoke was observed emerging from the nursery ward.
A total of 19 victims were evacuated and shifted from the affected ward. These included 7 babies (alive at that time), 10 females, and 2 males. Meanwhile, 7 babies were found dead.

The fire department deployed extensive resources to control the blaze. A total of 44 operational staff members and 6 officers participated in the rescue operation. Multiple vehicles including CU-6A2, TDF-8629, and rescue units from G-10, I-9, PHQ, G-5, and B-17 were dispatched.
The fire incident report highlighted several safety violations. Fire and life-safety arrangements were found inadequate and compromised. Emergency exits and access routes were permanently locked from outside or obstructed.

Security staff and hospital personnel initially created hindrance to the fire crew’s response. Crowd management at the incident site was also found to be inadequate. Authorities have been urged to address these safety concerns immediately.
