On Tuesday, the Sindh government authorised the creation of Karachi Metropolitan University in the port city.
The decision was made at a meeting of the Sindh cabinet in Karachi, presided over by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.
The KMC has suggested establishing a full-fledged public university in Karachi’s Central District. The Karachi Metropolitan University Bill has already been handed to the assembly after being thoroughly reviewed by the law department.
Furthermore, the cabinet tabled a request to declare Karachi Medical & Dental Institution as an associated college and Abbasi Shaheed Hospital as a teaching hospital of Karachi Metropolitan University, at the request of the Universities & Boards.
The University & Boards department filed a motion to the cabinet seeking that the 27 colleges of District Hyderabad be placed under the administration of GC University, Hyderabad.
On January 21, 2018, GC College was elevated to the status of university after celebrating 100 years of effective educational services. It was founded in 1917 by the eminent educationist Dayaram Gidumal Shahani.
To determine its authority, the government formed a committee with Minister Ismail Rahu, Minister Education Sardar Shah, and Advisor Law as members. Sindh University currently has control over the 27 colleges.
