6614 candidates set to compete for Chairman and Vice Chairman posts in Karachi

In the second phase of local body elections in Sindh, polling will be held on July 24 in 16 districts of Karachi and Hyderabad divisions, including 9 districts of Hyderabad division and 7 districts of Karachi division.

After the amendment of the Sindh Local Government Act 2013, local government elections will be held on town basis, Karachi is divided into 25 towns, 246 union committees and 984 wards.

6614 candidates of various political parties are participating in the local body elections for the seats of chairman and vice chairman while 8114 candidates will contest for ward councillor.

The last municipal elections of 2016 were held on district basis with a total of 209 Union Committees, as per the new amendments the number of Union Committees has been increased from 209 to 246.

District Central is the largest district of Karachi in which the number of Union Committees is 45, while earlier there were 51 Union Councils, the number of USCs in Korangi District is 37 as before, the number of Union Committees in Malir District has increased from 13 to 30. has been done

According to the new amendments, West District has been divided into two parts i.e. West and Kemari, West District earlier had 46 UCs. Now it has 33 Union Committees and 32 USCs in Kemari district.

There are 26 USCs in South District, while earlier there were 31 Union Committees, the number of USCs in East District has been increased from 31 to 43.

East Side:

5. Safora Town

6. Sohrab Goth Town

South District:

1. Lyari Town

2. Ibrahim Hydari Town

District Malir:

1. Gadap Town

2. Miller Town

3. Korangi Town

Korangi District:

1. Landhi Town

2. Model Colony Town

3. Shah Faisal Town

West side:

1. Ongi Town

2. Mominabad Town

3. Manghopir Town

4. Morero Town

Kemari District:

1. Baldia Town

2. Maripur Town

Central District:

1. North Nazimabad Town

2. New Karachi Town

3. Nazimabad Town

4. Gulberg Town

5. Liaquatabad Town

The mayor of Karachi will be elected by the chairman who won from the union committee. It should be noted that the first phase of local elections in Sindh was held on June 26 in 14 districts in which the Pakistan People’s Party won significantly.
