Work on Karachi’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Red Line has slowed significantly, with large sections appearing inactive, raising fresh concerns over delays, coordination issues, and overall project management, according to local media reports.

The report highlighted that the project is divided into two main segments: Lot 1, which runs from Airport Signal to Mosamiyat, and Lot 2, stretching from Mosamiyat to Numaish.

Among the two, Lot 2 is larger in scope but has faced more persistent problems and repeated interruptions.

Last year, construction on Lot 2 remained halted for several months due to financial disagreements between the contractor and the authorities.

The matter even reached court before payments were eventually cleared.

Despite earlier assurances that issues had been resolved, work progress has once again slowed down noticeably.

At several points along the route, including near People’s Chowrangi, no machinery was visible, highlighting the lack of ongoing activity.

Moving towards Hassan Square, only a few labourers and a small number of machines could be seen, with no active construction work underway.

On the stretch between Hassan Square and Nipa, progress has also been affected due to ongoing K-IV water pipeline installation, which has further delayed construction in the area.

Even where machinery was present, it appeared inactive, with no operators or visible work in progress.

The repeated stoppages and slow pace of development on this major transport project have raised questions about administrative planning and oversight.
