This recovery follows a lengthy investigation that began on July 13, 2019, after allegations surfaced that government land was being encroached upon by private textile mills.
954 acres of railway land encroached in Karachi division, only 340 acres recovered in 3 years
Although the inquiry was temporarily halted due to a Supreme Court ruling, it was reopened in 2025 at the request of Pakistan Railways to address continued encroachments.

While Pakistan Railways claimed possession of the land was secured in 2021 under Supreme Court orders, NAB’s investigation revealed that private textile mills still held actual possession.
Through the dedicated efforts of NAB officers, the land has now been fully retrieved and returned to Pakistan Railways’ physical control.
