The federal government of Pakistan has decided to keep petrol and diesel prices unchanged for the next fortnight.
According to an official notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the fuel prices announced earlier will continue to apply from January 16, 2026, and will remain in force for the next 15 days.
Under the unchanged rates, petrol will continue to sell at Rs253.17 per litre, while high-speed diesel (HSD) will remain at Rs257.08 per litre.

Officials said the decision was taken after a detailed review of international oil prices, domestic fuel consumption patterns, supply trends, and overall market conditions over the past two weeks.
The Petroleum Division stated that movements in global petroleum prices and local demand were carefully assessed before maintaining the current rates.
The government reiterated that fuel prices in Pakistan are reviewed on a fortnightly basis to strike a balance between providing relief to consumers and meeting fiscal requirements.

Any changes in prices are made after evaluating exchange rate movements, global crude oil trends, and import costs.
The decision to keep petrol prices unchanged comes as a surprise to many consumers, as earlier reports had suggested a possible reduction in fuel rates from January 16.
Media reports had indicated that petrol prices could drop by up to Rs4.59 per litre, while high-speed diesel was expected to become cheaper by Rs2.70 per litre.

In addition, kerosene oil was projected to see a reduction of Rs1.82 per litre, and light diesel oil was expected to be lowered by Rs2.08 per litre.
Officials had confirmed earlier that preliminary work for a downward revision in petroleum prices had been completed.
