The United States has approved a significant Pakistan F-16 upgrade, authorizing advanced technology and support worth $686 million to modernize the fighter jet fleet.

The official approval was shared in a DSCA letter sent to Congress on December 8, outlining the strategic importance of the decision.

According to foreign media reports, the package includes Link-16 data link systems, upgraded avionics, cryptographic gear, pilot training, and comprehensive logistical support.

These enhancements aim to strengthen Pakistan’s defense capabilities, enabling the fleet to better counter existing and emerging regional threats.

The DSCA explained that the move aligns with Washington’s long-term foreign policy vision and national security objectives.

Officials noted that the advanced technology will significantly extend the operational lifespan of Pakistan’s Block-52 and MLU-standard F-16 aircraft. With these upgrades, the jets are expected to remain mission-effective until at least 2040.

The modernization initiative is viewed as a critical step in reinforcing Pakistan’s air defense structure and enhancing the country’s overall military readiness.
