Dow University Hospital’s Ojha Campus has introduced Pakistan’s first public-sector Gamma Knife radiosurgery facility, providing a specialised treatment option for patients with brain tumours and other neurological conditions.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah inaugurated the facility on Friday at the Dow University Hospital, Ojha Campus.
Speaking about the development, Shah described the facility as the first of its kind at a public-sector hospital in Pakistan. He said Gamma Knife technology is internationally recognised for treating tumours and provides a non-invasive treatment option.
The new facility uses Gamma Knife radiosurgery, a technology designed to deliver highly focused radiation to targeted areas while limiting exposure to surrounding healthy tissue.

The introduction of the facility at a public-sector hospital is expected to expand access to specialised radiosurgery services for patients who may otherwise face limited treatment options.
At the inauguration ceremony, CM Shah reaffirmed the Sindh government’s support for public healthcare initiatives.
He acknowledged that there was still significant work to be done in the province’s healthcare sector but said limited resources remained a major challenge.
“There is still a lot that needs to be done but we don’t have enough resources,” Shah said.
The launch of the Gamma Knife facility marks an addition to specialised medical services available through the public healthcare system in Karachi.
