Karachi’s newly launched e-challan system has completed its first 30 days, issuing more than 93,000 digital fines to motorists for various traffic violations across the metropolis.
According to official data, the highest number of fines was recorded for seat belt violations. Cameras detected 57,541 motorists driving without wearing a seat belt.

The second-highest category involved motorcyclists, with a total of 22,227 e-challans issued to riders who were found travelling without helmets, despite repeated warnings and awareness campaigns by the traffic police.
The system also generated fines for speeding, especially through trackers installed in dumper trailers and water tankers, which accounted for 1,188 speeding violations in a month.

Other vehicles were also monitored closely, with 2,699 e-challans issued for speeding across different parts of Karachi. Officials say automated monitoring continues to improve accuracy and enforcement reliability.
The report shows that additional violations were also recorded through the digital system. A total of 1,278 motorists were fined for fancy or illegal number plates installed on their vehicles in violation of traffic rules.

Furthermore, 1,278 fines were imposed on vehicles with tinted windows. Another 611 challans were issued for stop-line violations, while 426 motorists were fined for driving in the wrong direction on major roads.
In terms of penalties, the highest financial fines were collected from seat belt violations. A total of Rs 575.41 million was imposed on motorists who failed to wear seat belts while driving, while bikers were fined Rs 111.13 million for helmet violations, and vehicles with tinted windows were fined Rs 29.45 million.
