Schools to be shut, indoor dinning banned in Sindh as Covid-19 cases rise


Provincial government of Sindh has decided to close primary and secondary schools and shut the restaurants for indoor dinning in its recent meeting on Wednesday.


The meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Sindh, Murad Ali Shah addressing in provincial Covid-19 Task Force, he streesed on the closure of all public gathering places for two weeks.


Details shared to the media said, the primary to secondary schools in the province will be closed for two weeks while classes above than these are only allowed to take their exams.


Public gathering places including Seaview and Hawksbay beaches, Keenjhar Lake, Cinema houses, indoor sports activities and amusement parks will also remain shut for next two weeks.


It is alarming that the situation in Karachi is worsening as the city’s Covid-19 positivity rate goes high to 17%. District East of Karachi has the highest positivity rate of 21%, while it is 15% in District South, 12% in Central District and 8% in Korangi, said Shah.


Moreover, the Covid-19 positivity ratio in the province has risen to 7.4%.


Earlier on July 13, eighteen cases of Delta variant (Indian) have been reported in the city, said Health Minister Sindh Azra Fazal Pechuho.


Whereas in Karachi specifically, five members of a family in Karachi’s Lyari have contracted this variant, confirmed Parliamentary Secretary on Health Qasim Soomro.


The provincial government is concerned over the violation of coronavirus SOPs, asked for strict measurements against the violation.
