Karachi’s Green Line project to become operational in September

Sindh Governor Imran Ismail has said that the long-awaited Green Line section of Karachi’s Bus Rapid Transit Service (BRTS) — the first-ever modern mass transit system for the city — will become operational by early September.

Addressing the “Safe Karachi Conference”, Ismail said Prime Minister Imran Khan would be invited to inaugurate the Green Line BRTS project.

He said the manufacturing of the buses for Green Line Service in Karachi had started in China and their test drive completed. The buses are likely to reach Karachi by August 15.

The Governor said the government had also assigned the task to the federally-owned Sindh Infrastructure Development Company Ltd to purchase buses for the Orange Line section of the BRTS that will also connect with the Green Line service in Karachi.

He said the federal government would make sure that the buses for the Orange Line service were also purchased at the earliest.
