The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has issued a warning for bank account holders to beware of a new fraud involving ‘mistaken money transfers.’
According to the central bank, fraudsters contact citizens claiming that they have accidentally sent money into their accounts.
They then pressure or emotionally manipulate victims into sending the amount back, using excuses or threats to convince them.
The SBP’s social media advisory urges people not to fall for this scam, stressing that this is a tactic to steal money. Citizens are advised to always verify their transaction history before taking any action.
The bank further stated that if such an incident occurs, individuals should report the case immediately by contacting PTA’s helpline at 0800-25625 instead of responding directly to unknown callers.
The State Bank also shared an awareness video explaining how this scam works and how to stay protected. It emphasized that official institutions never contact individuals to demand or refund mistaken transactions through calls or messages.
Last week, Sindh government has issued an official warning regarding fake online advertisements about the Pink Scooty Scheme, which falsely claim registration or payment requirements for women applicants.
According to a statement released through the Sindh Information Department’s official X account, the government has taken serious notice of fraudulent messages circulating on social media platforms in recent days.
These deceptive advertisements falsely suggest that citizens can apply for the Pink Scooty Scheme by paying fees or sharing personal information through unauthorized links or websites, officials confirmed.
The Sindh government clarified that no person, website, or organization has been authorized to collect money or registration details under the scheme, calling all such posts “fabricated and misleading.”
