The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has announced a nationwide strike over journalists’ killings in Sindh, calling for justice for murdered media workers Tufail Rind and Imtiaz Mir.

The countrywide protest will take place on October 11, with journalist unions and press clubs instructed to ensure full participation.

According to details, the Hyderabad Union of Journalists (HUJ) will lead a major demonstration today at 3:30 pm, where journalists from across Sindh will gather in large numbers.

HUJ General Secretary Jam Farid Lakho stated that the protest movement will continue until the killers of the slain journalists are brought to justice, and all press bodies have been directed to participate in the protest.

Earlier this week, gunmen fatally shot journalist Tufail Rind in Mirpur Mathelo, Sindh, raising the death toll of media workers in Pakistan this year to five.

According to police reports, two suspects have been arrested, and initial findings suggest the murder may have been motivated by personal enmity. Rind was associated with Royal TV and the Mehran newspaper.

Imtiaz Mir, another journalist and TV anchor, was gunned down in Karachi last month, marking the second targeted killing of a media worker in just two weeks.

The repeated incidents have sparked outrage across the journalistic community and renewed calls for government intervention to ensure media safety.

According to Freedom Network Pakistan, at least 16 journalists have been killed in Pakistan over the past two years, with seven journalists slain in 2024 and four in 2023.

Since 2000, a total of 155 journalists and media workers have lost their lives across the country.
