Karachi Mayor ordered stern action against emergency personnel who failed to report for duty during recent rains, directing suspensions for staff members neglecting responsibilities at crucial times.
According to Fire Chief Muhammad Humayun, ten employees, including four officers, one driver, and five firemen, were suspended after inspections revealed repeated absenteeism at stations during heavy rainfall.
Station Officer Ghulam Fakhruddin of Landhi Fire Station, along with Sub Fire Officer Adnan Moin and driver Umar Farooq, were immediately removed from active duty pending disciplinary review.
Leading Fireman Moeed Ahmed and Fireman Farooq Siddiqui from Shah Faisal Colony station were also named for dereliction, after reportedly missing emergency roll calls during critical weather operations.

From Landhi Fire Station, firemen Nihal and Kashif Moin were similarly suspended, while Civil Center personnel Muhammad Rashid and Muhammad Naseem faced identical action over unexplained absences.
Deputy Director Central Javed Irshad was among senior officers penalized, signaling the administration’s resolve to ensure accountability across all ranks within Karachi’s emergency response network.
Mayor’s office emphasized that negligence during challenging weather undermines rescue efforts, risking public safety and damaging the reputation of civic departments tasked with protecting citizens from storm hazards.
Suspended officials have been instructed to report to headquarters, where they will receive formal show-cause notices and charge sheets as part of the disciplinary proceedings initiated by the Fire Department.
