The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) have introduced a strict seat belt rule for public transport to improve passenger safety. All travelers in buses, coaches, and other public vehicles must wear seat belts throughout the journey.

According to the spokesperson, drivers and onboard staff must ensure every passenger follows the rule at all times. Those who ignore the seat belt requirement will face immediate fines. Vehicles without working seat belts will be refused entry onto the motorway.

The new regulation aims to reduce road accidents and protect lives. The spokesperson stressed that both passengers and operators carry a legal and moral responsibility to make travel safe. Compliance with this safety measure is essential for a secure and smooth journey.

On the other hand, few months ago in April, Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan introduced an age limit for vehicles on motorways.

As per the announcement, vehicles older than 20 years will no longer be allowed on motorways across Pakistan.

During a visit to the National Highways and Motorway Police Headquarters in Islamabad, Khan reviewed the command and control systems, as well as other departments.

Highlighting the rising number of accidents on the motorways, Khan stressed the need for tough decisions to safeguard public lives.

“Accidents continue to happen at the same spots on the motorway. We must act decisively to save lives,” Khan said. He also directed the Inspector General to formulate a comprehensive plan to tackle this issue.
