After enraged citizens set fire to seven dumpers on Karachi’s Rashid Minhas Road, the Dumpers Association blocked the National Highway and issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the Sindh government, demanding the immediate arrest of those involved.

The accident occurred when a motorcycle – carrying a father and two children – was hit, killing 14-year-old Ahmed Raza and 22-year-old Mahnoor on the spot.

Following the fatal accident, the enraged citizens set fire to the seven dumpers, forcing police and Rangers to intervene and restore order.

Later, the police confirmed that the father, Mohammad Shakir, was critically injured in the collision, and the dumper driver, identified as Firdous Khan, was arrested at the scene.

The driver involved in the accident claimed that the motorcyclist fell by himself in front of the vehicle, denying his direct fault.

In his statement to the police, as reported by local media, the arrested driver further claimed that enraged citizens took his vehicle’s papers, mobile phone, and driving license after the accident.

The Dumpers Association on Sunday early morning staged a sit-in on the Super Highway, blocking traffic between Sohrab Goth and the National Highway.

The association president Liaquat Mehsud said the accident was actually caused by a tanker, not a dumper, but misdirected anger led to the destruction of their vehicles.

He issued an ultimatum to the Sindh government and demanded that the culprits who torched the vehicles to be arrested within 72 hours.

The association refused to remove the burned dumpers from the site until their demands were met, intensifying the traffic disruption on Rashid Minhas road.

Mehsud expressed grief over the loss of life but insisted that the government must prosecute those who set the dumpers on fire under the Anti-Terrorism Act. He claimed around 33 dumpers had been burned in similar incidents over recent months.

Transporters also demanded the Sindh government compensate owners of destroyed vehicles.

They maintained that despite previous meetings with authorities, no effective measures had been taken to ensure the security of dumpers and tankers operating in Karachi.

Authorities said traffic on the Main Super Highway had been restored after initial negotiations with police. However, protests on Rashid Minhas Road were still underway as of the time of filing this story.

According to police, a case has been registered at Yousuf Plaza Police Station under the murder section on behalf of the children’s uncle.
