Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, during a state visit by Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Iran’s right to pursue nuclear technology for peaceful purposes under the UN Charter.

In a joint press conference in Islamabad, PM Shehbaz said, “Iran has every right to acquire nuclear energy for peaceful objectives. Pakistan stands firmly with Iran in this regard.”

He condemned the recent Israeli strikes on Iran as “unprovoked and unacceptable,” reiterating Pakistan’s solidarity with the Iranian people. The two leaders also agreed on joint efforts to combat terrorism and ensure border security.

On regional issues, the prime minister praised Iran’s consistent support for Palestinians and urged the global community to push for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

He drew parallels between the plight of Palestinians and Kashmiris, vowing to continue Pakistan’s support for the people of Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

President Pezeshkian, calling Pakistan a “brotherly country,” thanked Islamabad for its support and quoted Allama Iqbal to promote a message of unity. He invited PM Shehbaz to Tehran to deepen ties further.

Both countries signed multiple agreements, including an ambitious target of increasing bilateral trade to $8 billion annually. The deal was finalized during a meeting between Commerce Minister Jam Kamal and Iran’s Minister for Industry, Mine and Trade, Mohammad Atabak. Key sectors include agriculture, energy, logistics, and IT.

Defence ministers from both sides also held talks to enhance military cooperation. The leaders emphasized cross-border coordination and agreed to accelerate economic and security-related initiatives.

Iranian President Pezeshkian’s two-day visit included meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and other senior officials. He also planted a sapling at the PM House as a symbol of growing bilateral ties.
