The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is set to introduce Smart Parking Services in Karachi, starting with ten covered and boundary wall-enclosed locations to improve traffic flow and parking efficiency.
The new system is part of a citywide modernization plan by Mayor Murtaza Wahab, which will offer digital parking solutions, better security, and organized vehicle management at key sites in the metropolis.
Ten high-traffic locations have been chosen for the first phase, listed below:
- Sindbad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal
- Parking Lot near A.O. Clinic, Nazimabad
- Clifton Center
- Sasi Arcade, Clifton
- Paradise Center
- Polo Ground, Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed Road
- Crystal Court, Clifton
- Plot between Beach View Parking, Clifton
- Hyper Star, Beach View Parking, Clifton
- Driving License Branch, Nazimabad
These areas will have boundary walls and improved surveillance systems for safer vehicle management.
KMC’s Charged Parking Department has started procurement by floating tenders. An Expression of Interest (EOI) is also invited under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
The system will offer digital ticketing, cashless payments, and real-time updates on available parking slots. Security cameras and lighting will be upgraded for public safety.
A KMC spokesperson stated that the system would ease parking issues while moving Karachi closer to smart urban infrastructure. “It’s a long-term step towards digital transformation,” they added.
This project follows the earlier announcement of free parking at 32 locations. The Smart Parking Zones in Karachi will be launched in phases after final approval procedures.
KMC aims to reduce illegal parking, improve traffic movement, and make public spaces more accessible through efficient, tech-driven parking solutions across the city.
