Cammie, a young camel from Sindh, has made history as the first animal in Pakistan to be successfully fitted with a custom-made prosthetic limb, marking a breakthrough moment in the country’s animal welfare landscape.

Discovered injured in Sanghar last year at just eight months old, Cammie had suffered severe trauma to one of her front legs. Her survival seemed uncertain – until a year-long journey of healing, hope, and innovation changed her life.

After months of rehabilitation, Cammie was fitted with a custom prosthetic limb designed by renowned prosthetics expert Derrick Campana of Bionic Pets USA.

The effort was facilitated by the Sindh Government, with generous financial backing, and was carried out under the care of the CDRS Benji Project Shelter, which played a central role in her rescue and recovery.

In a major breakthrough moment, Cammie stood on her prosthetic limb for the first time on Monday morning.

Officials from CDRS Benji shared, “We’ve been training her for two months to wear the prosthetic while sitting. But today at around 11 am, we left it on – and she got up on her own. It was the first time she stood on the prosthetic by herself.”
