To ensure public safety and smooth traffic flow during the Muharram processions, Karachi police issued a traffic plan for the citizens.
The Office of the Deputy Inspector General of Police has released a detailed traffic diversion plan for the 8th, 9th, and 10th of Muharram 1447 Hijri (corresponding to July 4, 5, and 6, 2025).
The central procession will start from Nishtar Park and conclude at Hussainia Iranian Imambargah, following its traditional route. For security reasons, MA Jinnah Road will remain completely closed from Guru Mandir to Tower during the processions.
Commuters from different districts have been advised to follow alternate routes.
District Central:
In District Central, traffic from Nazimabad should use Lasbela Chowk to reach Nishtar Road via Garden, while those from Liaquatabad can take Teen Hatti towards either Lasbela or Martin Road. From Hassan Square, motorists can use the Jail Flyover underpass to reach Kashmir Road and Society Signal.
District East:
For District East, vehicles from Shahrah-e-Faisal should use Society Signal and Kashmir Road to access Numaish, and those from Central Jail Gate should proceed via Bahadur Yar Jang Road and Soldier Bazaar.
District South:
In District South, traffic from Garden Zoo can go through Uncle Saria, Gul Plaza, Coast Guard, and Holy Family Hospital.
Heavy, Commercial Traffic Diversion:
Heavy and commercial vehicles from Super Highway and Gulberg heading towards MA Jinnah Road will be diverted via Liaquatabad No.10, Nazimabad No.2, Habib Bank Flyover, Sher Shah, and then to Mauripur.
Vehicles from the National Highway will be rerouted through Shahrah-e-Faisal, Rashid Minhas, Stadium Road, Sir Shah Suleman Road, and Hassan Square to reach Mauripur.
Only vehicles bearing official procession stickers will be allowed on MA Jinnah Road through Shahrah-e-Quaideen and Society Signal.
Entry for Sabeel/Tabarruk Vehicles:
Vehicles for sabeel and tabarruk will be permitted entry from the Tower and Memon Masjid side, however, no parking will be allowed along the procession route.
Routes for Procession Participants:
Participants in the processions can reach Numaish from Nazimabad via Lasbela, Garden Jamaat Khana, and Soldier Bazaar No.3, while those from Liaquatabad can follow Teen Hatti, Jehangir Road, and Guru Mandir. From Gulistan-e-Johar or Gulshan, the advised route is via University Road, Kashmir Road, and Society Signal.
The traffic police have urged citizens to strictly follow these diversions, avoid unnecessary travel in restricted areas, and cooperate with law enforcement to ensure peaceful observance during the procession days.
