SUPARCO predicts date of Eid-ul-Adha 2025 in Pakistan

Zil Hajj moon sighting

The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has shared its scientific prediction on the moon sighting for Zil-Hajj 1446 AH.

According to SUPARCO, the new moon will be born on May 27, 2025, at 08:02 AM Pakistan Standard Time, based on modern astronomical models and observational data.

On May 27 (29th Zul Qadah), the moon’s age at sunset will be just 11 hours and 34 minutes, making its visibility extremely difficult across Pakistan.

SUPARCO says there will only be a 37-minute window between sunset and moonset that day, even under clear skies, lowering the chances of a visible moon.

Due to this limited time, the crescent is not expected to be seen, and the first of Zil-Hajj is likely to fall on May 29, 2025.

If this prediction holds, Eid-ul-Adha will likely be celebrated on June 7. SUPARCO clarified that this is a scientific forecast, and the final decision rests with the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which considers eyewitness reports and local weather.
