Karachi traffic police have launched a city-wide crackdown after a video of a dumper breaking traffic laws went viral on social media.
The dumper was seen speeding recklessly on Shahrah-e-Faisal, ignoring signals from traffic patrol vehicle and fleeing the scene.
According to the police spokesperson, the video shows the dumper driver committing multiple violations including over-speeding, reckless driving, and evading police orders.
The incident sparked public outcry, leading authorities to take immediate and large-scale enforcement action.
Police ordered all dumper associations in Karachi to locate and hand over the driver and the specific vehicle involved in the viral video.
Despite verbal assurance by Dumper Association President Liaquat Mehsud, no cooperation followed, forcing the authorities to escalate the matter.
The traffic police then launched a late-night crackdown targeting dumpers operating across the city’s main arteries and industrial routes.
As part of the operation, 142 dumpers were fined, 27 impounded, and one dumper driver was arrested for repeated violations.
The arrested individuals are facing charges under Sections 99 and 113 of the Motor Vehicles Ordinance, 1965, which deal with dangerous driving and non-compliance.
Officials stated that more arrests may follow if others are found guilty of similar offences or evading legal action.
The Karachi Traffic Police said the crackdown would continue without interruption until the runaway dumper and driver seen in the video are presented to authorities.
“No one is above the law,” the spokesperson stressed, highlighting zero tolerance for reckless behavior at roads in Karachi.
The department also encouraged citizens to report similar violations through official channels or helplines, ensuring accountability and road safety.
