All major commercial centers and markets across Karachi will remain closed today (Monday) in a show of solidarity with the people of Palestine and to protest against the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza.
The call for a complete shutter-down strike was made by the city’s business leaders, who urged traders and shopkeepers to join hands in condemning the brutal Israeli attacks that have resulted in thousands of deaths, including women and children.
According to the details, business leader Rizwan Irfan appealed to traders to close shops and express support for their “oppressed Palestinian brothers.”
Similarly, Jamil Paracha, a representative of the Karachi Traders’ Union, confirmed that the entire business community stands with the people of Gaza during this humanitarian crisis.
Prominent trade centers, including Mithadar, Sarafa Bazaar, and Jodia Bazaar, will remain closed.

Shakir Fancy, Abdul Rauf Ibrahim, and Aslam Polani confirmed that not only retail markets but medicine markets and other wholesale hubs will also observe the strike. The Aram Bagh Traders Association has also extended full support.
This shutdown comes in response to a global strike call issued by the Palestinian National and Islamic Forces, demanding international attention towards Israel’s military offenses and the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.
The group emphasized the need for unified international pressure to halt the war and hold Israel accountable for repeated human rights violations.
It is worth mentioning here that the Israeli forces resumed military operations on March 18, breaking a ceasefire during the holy month of Ramadan. Since then, over 1,000 Palestinians, including hundreds of children, have been killed in new attacks.
The total death toll in Gaza, since October 7, 2023, has now surpassed 50,000, sparking global outrage and a growing call for justice.
