PKCERT warns citizens about new phishing attacks

new phishing attacks

The National Cyber Emergency Response Team of Pakistan (PKCERT) has issued a warning about a new wave of phishing attacks targeting citizens.

These fraudulent emails are impersonating law enforcement agencies, creating fear to manipulate victims into sharing personal and financial information.

According to media reports, PKCERT’s advisory highlights that the emails falsely claim to come from agencies like the “Commissioner Police Department” or the “Central Bureau of Investigation,” which do not exist in Pakistan.

The emails threaten legal action or arrest within 24 hours, pressuring recipients to respond quickly, and potentially leading to identity theft or financial fraud.

PKCERT emphasized that these emails are sent from fake domains, unlike the legitimate “gov.pk” domain used by the Pakistani government.

Victims could be at risk of losing sensitive information, including login credentials or financial data.

The advisory urges the public to avoid responding to such emails, check the authenticity of senders, and monitor their bank accounts for unauthorized activity.

Citizens are also encouraged to report phishing attempts to PKCERT or relevant authorities.
