Pakistani nationals residing in Canada must approach the National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) to apply for the National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP).
NICOP is crucial for Pakistanis planning to travel abroad or settle in other countries, allowing dual nationals to enter Pakistan without needing a visa.
NADRA is the only official body authorized to issue NICOP, while Pakistani nationals need a valid passport number to apply for a Smart NICOP.
Applications can be submitted at any NADRA office in Pakistan, or overseas Pakistanis can apply at their local consulates, including in Canada. Alternatively, NICOP applications can be submitted online via the Pak Identity website.
NADRA has divided countries into two categories: Zone A and Zone B.
Canada falls under Zone A, which also includes European and Western nations.
Zone B consists of Arab countries such as Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
For Pakistanis in Canada, the fees for NICOP are as follows:
- Normal application: Rs 11,340 (approx. $39)
- Urgent application: Rs 16,589 (approx. $57)
- Executive application: Rs 21,820 (approx. $75)
To apply in person at a NADRA office or consulate, follow these steps:
- Obtain a token.
- Have your photograph taken.
- Provide your fingerprints and signature.
- Complete the required data entry.
- Review and submit your application.
For added convenience, applicants can apply for a Smart NICOP online through the Pak-Identity website, which also offers doorstep delivery services.
