The nation, government, and armed forces remain committed to justice and the protection of state authority, as per ISPR.

It is worth noting here that the constitutional bench of Supreme Court earlier this month conditionally allowed military courts to pronounce the verdicts of 85 under-custody civilians in cases related to the May 9 riots.

The sentencing of civilians by military courts has been condemned not only by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party but also by the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union, with all expressing concerns that the move contradicts international laws.

May 09 Riots:

During the riots that followed, at least 10 people lost their lives and hundreds were injured.

Approximately 40 public buildings and military installations were damaged, including the Lahore Corps Commander’s House (Jinnah House), Askari Tower in Lahore, the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Office in Faisalabad, FC Fort in Chakdara, Radio Pakistan building in Peshawar, the Toll Plaza at Swat Motorway, and the PAF Base Mianwali.

In total, 62 incidents of violence were reported, resulting in a loss of Rs2.5 billion. Of this, the state claims that Rs1.98 billion in damages were incurred by the military. The military has labeled the events as a coordinated attack orchestrated by PTI leadership.
