As many as 35 people were killed and 43 others injured after a car ploughed into a crowd in China’s southern Zhuhai city.
According to international media, the hit-and-run took place on Monday, when a 62-year-old man ran over his vehicle into a large group of people exercising outside a sports centre located in southern Zhuhai City, China.
The police claimed to have arrested the man driving the car and was rushed to the hospital as he hurt himself with a knife in his car after the accident.
The police further revealed that the 43 injured individuals were not in life-threatening condition, however, the driver is in a coma as he hurt his neck and other body parts in knife attacks, further complicating the investigation process.
State news agency Xinhua stated that Chinese President Xi Jinping had urged “every possible effort” to treat the injured and ordered “criminals to be punished according to law.”
